FAQs Regarding Diagnostics and Exams
What can I expect during the preliminary exam?
First and foremost you can expect to get solid answers about the unique forces that are working in tandem to create your pain. We provide important, objective, and thorough diagnostic information regarding the root causes of your painful symptoms.
Your first exam will last about 2 hours, and every moment is worth it because what we learn on this day allows us to create a complete customized treatment protocol just for you.
Exactly what is involved in the diagnostic process?
The diagnostic process includes a computerized measurement of the force balance in your mouth on a tooth by tooth basis, as well as computerized measurements of muscle movement disability. A comprehensive Range of Motion Exam will be performed and your mouth movements will be accurately measured. With these easy and painless tests you can expect to see first hand where your problems are stemming from.
The remainder of your comprehensive examination will help you and Dr. Harris pinpoint other related areas of mouth health, muscle health, tooth related issues, and other potential problem areas which will be addressed during your treatment.
The experience is quite revealing because finally you will have a chance to be properly diagnosed by the most qualified care providers. Most physicians are not properly trained and prepared to shed light on the root causes of your pain, but we are.
Are all of the office visits going to be 2 hours long?
No. Treatment can begin immediately after diagnosis in most cases, so this is why we ask you to plan for a 2 hour initial visit. However, you will not need to be re-diagnosed again.
All subsequent treatment visits are weekly and last only about 50 minutes. A full course of treatment lasts about 12 weeks, so it is possible to become pain-free in less than three months with a normal response to treatment.
FAQs Regarding the Treatment Process
How does the MHRPA treatment process work?

FAQs Regarding Treatment Cost/Insurance
How much does treatment usually cost?
It depends entirely upon the diagnosis of the individual patient and the nature of their specific insurance plan. In general, treatment costs vary — some or all of which could be reimbursable through your own health insurance coverage. If you have a health insurance plan, we will obtain pre-authorization for procedures in advance whenever possible and bill your insurance carrier in a timely manner. When needed, MHRPA will provide comprehensive supporting documentation to insurance carriers in an effort to help you secure the maximum allowable reimbursement.
How do we find out how much insurance will cover?
MHRPA will perform a benefits estimation check for you towards the beginning of the process. Understand that while many patients are able to successfully obtain some health insurance coverage for their diagnostic procedures and treatment visits, some out-of-pocket responsibility may exist. The procedure types and amounts covered also tend to vary greatly by insurer.
We always aggressively pursue reimbursement with health insurance companies on your behalf and have been successful in helping patients obtain varying levels of reimbursement — even in out-of-network scenarios. Unlike most medical practices, we will work very hard to help you secure reimbursement.
How else can MHRPA help you if insurance doesn’t cover the full cost of your treatment?
We understand that there are financial implications that come with having less than full medical insurance coverage — every bit as much as we understand that you are in pain and MUST find a way to get relief. Where there is a need, there must also be a solution.
Some people experience chronic and intensely painul symptoms that affect every aspect of their lives. However, we have had astounding success in getting people in these situations back to living their lives free from the pain.
