The initial diagnosis is designed to expose the root causes of your pain so that appropriate TMJ treatment protocols can then be selected. Therefore, all treatments for TMJ and non-TMJ related face pain are assigned post-diagnosis. Some patients have easily correctable bite force imbalances that cause mild pain and discomfort in the TMJ or face. Others experience chronic TMJ or Face Pain that has brought them years of misery — and that’s time they don’t get back.
The root causes behind TMD/TMJ and face pain vary widely from patient to patient. Each person we treat is provided a customized course of treatment specific to their unique diagnosis. The full course of treatment for TMD/TMJ and Face Pain is usually 12 weeks and TMJ treatment sessions are about 50 minutes long, once per week.
You can expect a painless, drug-free, needle-free experience at The Migraine Headache Relief Center of PA. Treatment for your Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD/TMJ) can usually commence immediately after the initial diagnostics and examinations have been completed. TMJ Treatments and treatment for all other conditions associated with the face and jaw are performed on-site by Dr. Harris and his highly attentive staff. Our treatment facilities are warm and inviting!
MHRPA’s TMJ Treatments Use Pioneering Methodologies
The Migraine Headache Relief Center of PA uses proven, state-of-the-art technologies to treat patients suffering with TMJ/TMD or Face Pain. Your unique treatment course may include such therapy modalities as: Therapeutic Laser (Cold Laser), Cranial Electrical Stimulation, Ultrasound, and Manual Manipulation. No two patients are treated exactly the same way and therefore the most appropriate treatments for your condition will be customized to you. Learn more below about the TMJ treatments and face pain treatments that may be employed in your customized treatment plan.
Manual massage techniques are used in our headache and migraine treatments at MHRPA. Manipulating the trigger points — sub-dermal pockets of painful tension — helps to decrease pain and intensity. Blood flow is increased, inflammation decreased, and it promotes accelerated healing.
Cranial Electrical Stimulation
Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES) is where we introduce a low-level electrical signal into the musculature. The microcurrent interacts with the bioelectricity in the body of the headache and migraine sufferer and can result in a reduction to pain frequency and intensity. Muscle spasms and the potential for referral pain into other areas are also reduced while healthy nerve stimulation is encouraged.
Ultrasound of the Muscles
Using an ultrasound device offers several key benefits to patients with chronic pain conditions like headaches and migraines. It actually feels quite good! Patients describe it as a warming sensation and similar to getting a massage. Ultrasound aids in returning circulation to sore and strained muscles by increasing blood flow with heat.
Cold Laser Treatment
Cold laser technology is a headache and migraine treatment modality used by MHRPA to rehabilitate sore trigger points. Red red light photons, or infrared, work on both the hard and soft tissues to promote rapid healing. Low-level cold laser can reduce pain and inflammation while helping to reconnect the neurological pathways within the headache and migraine sufferer.
Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Orthotic Devices
Neuromuscular rehabilitation orthotics are critical to the long-term success of our headache and migraine treatment plans at MHRPA. A rehabilitation orthotic is a device placed in the mouth to retrain the bite and allow the muscles of the mouth and jaws to return to their appropriate resting positions. The muscles in the head, neck, teeth, mouth, jaws, etc., are all related. When any of these muscles become overworked, harmony must be restored to return pain-free functionality.
Isn't it time to eliminate your headache and migraine suffering?
It was only a few years back that the understanding of dental-related forces by doctors and dentists alike often proved inadequate for successful diagnosis and treatment of TMJ and Face Pain. Modern dentistry has incorporated neuromuscular rehabilitation techniques to close that gap, and the hope for lasting pain relief is real.
Improperly balanced dental forces such as bite force CAN be altered to provide you with long lasting relief from TMJ and Jaw Pain and other conditions. However, there are only about 275 care providers nationally that can offer you these breakthrough diagnosis and treatment protocols. Our migraine and headache treatments can begin immediately upon completion of the diagnostic and examination protocols. All treatments for migraine and headache pain are performed on-site by Dr. Harris and his staff. You will find our facilities warm and inviting — our staff pleasant and attentive.
