MHRPA’s TMJ Treatments Use Pioneering Methodologies
The Migraine Headache Relief Center of PA uses proven, state-of-the-art technologies to treat patients suffering with TMJ/TMD or Face Pain. Your unique treatment course may include such therapy modalities as: Therapeutic Laser (Cold Laser), Cranial Electrical Stimulation, Ultrasound, and Manual Manipulation. No two patients are treated exactly the same way and therefore the most appropriate treatments for your condition will be customized to you. Learn more below about the TMJ treatments and face pain treatments that may be employed in your customized treatment plan.
Manual Manipulation
Manual massage techniques are used in our headache and migraine treatments at MHRPA. Manipulating the trigger points — sub-dermal pockets of painful tension — helps to decrease pain and intensity. Blood flow is increased, inflammation decreased, and it promotes accelerated healing.
Cranial Electrical Stimulation
Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES) is where we introduce a low-level electrical signal into the musculature. The microcurrent interacts with the bioelectricity in the body of the headache and migraine sufferer and can result in a reduction to pain frequency and intensity. Muscle spasms and the potential for referral pain into other areas are also reduced while healthy nerve stimulation is encouraged.
Ultrasound of the Muscles
Using an ultrasound device offers several key benefits to patients with chronic pain conditions like headaches and migraines. It actually feels quite good! Patients describe it as a warming sensation and similar to getting a massage. Ultrasound aids in returning circulation to sore and strained muscles by increasing blood flow with heat.
Cold Laser Treatment
Cold laser technology is a headache and migraine treatment modality used by MHRPA to rehabilitate sore trigger points. Red red light photons, or infrared, work on both the hard and soft tissues to promote rapid healing. Low-level cold laser can reduce pain and inflammation while helping to reconnect the neurological pathways within the headache and migraine sufferer.
Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Orthotic Devices
Neuromuscular rehabilitation orthotics are critical to the long-term success of our headache and migraine treatment plans at MHRPA. A rehabilitation orthotic is a device placed in the mouth to retrain the bite and allow the muscles of the mouth and jaws to return to their appropriate resting positions. The muscles in the head, neck, teeth, mouth, jaws, etc., are all related. When any of these muscles become overworked, harmony must be restored to return pain-free functionality.
